Tucked away in Greenwood, MS, Mai Little China is a delightful restaurant which has helped bring Chinese cuisine to this small Southern town. It is definitely not your typical Chinese restaurant with the common Americanized Chinese fare. The intriguing menu combines Asian cuisine and neo-French-Asian fusion cuisine together to delight customers.
Even without elaborate decorations, Mai Little China has its own charm. Owner Matthew Mai keeps Mai Little China packed six days a week with a buffet featuring Chinese, American and French-Asian fusion food. The cornerstones of the menu are General Tso’s Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Lo Mein noodles and Fried Rice. These are standard dishes, while there is a large selection of Asian cuisine with a French twist. The Catfish Mai is one of the crowd pleasers at Mai Little China. It is a delectable blend of colossal lumps of crabmeat, jumbo shrimp, Prosciutto, and snow peas, with a fragrant wine cream sauce on top of fried filets of catfish. The mellowness of the wine cream sauce makes the dish absolutely sublime.
The Grilled Beef also has a large following of fans. It is all made of Akaushi Beef that lowers cholesterol and strengthens the immune system.
In addition, American fare is also available for those who favor Western cuisine. Green beans, black-eyed peas, lasagna, meatloaf, cornbread, chicken spaghetti, sweet potatoes, turnip greens will be a big hit for American food fans.
Matthew keeps the menu interesting by adding enticing and sometimes unconventional dishes to the menu. Based on century-old family recipes, he comes up with oodles of innovative interpretations that are a pleasant surprise to diners.
